Unfortunately, a “Christian” dealing with depression is not normal. And I do not make this statement out of arrogance or to offend anyone but as a “Christian” who went through depression with suicidal thoughts myself a decade ago, I now fully understand that a Christian going through depression has an open door in their lives to the forces of evil. There are several ways one can open doors to the kingdom of darkness and “legally” come under the oppression of the demons of hopelessness, mental torment, depression, and death for example:
- Through sin (whether knowingly or unknowingly) especially for those who received Christ
- Through the doors or gates to the soul (The law of agreement)
- Through open doors in your family bloodline and foundation
- Through Trauma/Abuse
1.Through sin (whether knowingly or unknowingly)
See, the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of the Holy One of Israel both heavily operates “legalistically”. What do I mean? They both operate by the laws that were established by the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel. The laws of the God of gods and the Lord of kings (Daniel 2:47) rule the whole universe including all spiritual kingdoms, thrones, or altars. As a result, one of the ways an entity of darkness can have the “permission or green light” to oppress and openly attack any soul is through the open door of sin. If you are a non-believer, then there is really nothing you can do as you are likely already living in some type of sin that has opened the door and will not repent unless who come to Christ. Now when you have received Jesus Christ as your Lord (term “Christian”), sin is still one of the ways you can come under the oppression of those demons.
In the case of the Christian who commits a sin and neither confesses nor
repents, the demons will take your case straight to the courtroom of heaven and literally build case against you to obtain permission to attack you. Remember, God’s laws are final. He does not make exceptions or play favoritism. If you, I, or Apostle Paul who wrote nearly half of the new testament fail to live in obedience to the commandments like Jesus required us to, not suggested but required us to, we will not see Heaven. We will all be heading to Hell. Why? Because again, as it is written then Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism (Acts 10:34). A pastor or prophet who is not living right and following the commandments of God is on their way to Hell as much as the regular churchgoer. Some may wonder how demons go to court against Christians. Please consider what was written:
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (Revelation 12:10, KJV)
Many of us Christians fail to see the bigger picture regarding the implication of “sinning”. Many of us feel like when Jesus required us to keep his commandments, he was taking this lightly or was merely making suggestions. Some feel that the commandments are constrictive or would argue that we are under grace in the new covenant. However, Jesus who knew that he would die for our sins was the one who constantly reminded us that those who love him are the ones who do the will of God and keep his commandments. The truth is that the cost of sin is exceedingly high. Sinning is obviously disobedience, and when we continue with any given act of sinning intentionally, we step into full blown rebellion and iniquities of the heart (For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king – 1 Samuel 15:23). And God forbids that we get to the point when he himself turns someone over to a reprobate mind.
Every time we sin according to the Bible verse above, the enemy builds a case against us and goes straight to God to accuse us. How? Using the laws that the GREAT I AM himself put in place. He brings up the law that you broke and states his case that by that breach, he has an open door in your life. Why, because the enemy cannot get to us Christians until we give him a legal way to do so as Jesus Christ is protecting us. Let us consider this. Why do you think the enemy tempts people and even tempted Jesus Christ? To lead to sin against God and open the door for him. God will never forsake us but there is one thing that we ourselves do that removes us from the presence of God:
but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. (Isaiah 59:2, ESV)
Sin is hence the #1 enemy of Christians. Paul also did warn us about open doors and legal grounds:
nor give place to the devil. (Ephesians 4:27, NKJV)
Why? A little open door is all the kingdom of darkness needs. This applies to addictions that start with something minute before rapidly graduating to a full-blown addiction. This concept applies to sinning as well. When we give a little place the enemy, he will make garden of sorrows and misery of our lives for us to lay in.
Let us pick an example of deliverance in the Bible that shows the power of sin along with the concept of open doors/legal grounds that are being discussed in this article.

There was a certain pool in the town Jerusalem called “Bethesda” that had a very miraculous story attached to it. In certain seasons, an angel of God goes down to that pool and stirs up the water. After the angel troubles the water, whomever had an infirmity and stepped in first was completely healed. There was a man who stayed by that water and had an infirmity for 38 years! However, he always failed to get in the water before anyone else gets in after the Angel came and stirred it up as his infirmity prevented him. Then when he met Jesus Christ who already knew of his case, Jesus Christ healed him. However, Jesus did something at a later time that marked me when he saw the man again in the temple:
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. (John 5:14, KJV)
Basically, Jesus Christ explained to him that he was healed. However, if peradaventure he let himself go back to whatever sin led him to that state, even the healing that him the son of God administered to him would be nullified. Worst yet, his case will be worst off the second time around than the former. And this is one law of the Bible that I have personally experienced. Once Jesus Christ delivers you out of anything and you get yourself entangled again in that sin, your case the second time around is worse off than your initial state:
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. (Matthew 12:43 – 45, KJV)
For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. (2 Peter 2:20, ESV)
Guys, that is the power of sin that open doors and gives legal ground to the kingdom of darkness in our lives. Once you get tempted by that spirit that is desiring to bring depression, hopelessness, and mental torment upon you and you go ahead and commit the sin, the spirit then proceed to fulfil the evil agenda it brought with it in your life.

2.Through the doors to the soul (The law of agreement)
Sinning as described above is a form of agreement. You are being tempted to do something that an entity of darkness wants you to do by breaking one of God’s laws. By falling for that temptation and committing the sin, we come in agreement with that devil that tempted us which now opens the door for it into our lives and souls.
One of the ways you can realize that Hollywood is demonic and super spiritual rather than a mere center of entertainment is that many things that are introduced to the public in “horror” movies especially the ones that are spiritual are true. When I used to watch such movies and programs with vampires in them such as the “The Vampire Diaries”, before a vampire which is nothing but a demon could physically come into somebody’s house, you must first give it permission. In the show the vampire will literally be unable to enter a house and be stuck at the door unless verbally invited in. By the way, there are no such things as good vampires, they are all demons from the pit of
hell. However why even in that TV show somebody had to first to give permission to a vampire to enter in? Because of the law of agreement that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel has put in place:
Can two walk together, except they be agreed? (Amos 3:3, KJV)
Now imagine which spirit is working in the authors writing such shows in the first place. The law of agreement is not only verbal but also non-verbal as there are several gates to the soul:
- The eye gate
- The nose gate
- The ear gate
- The mouth gate
- The skin gate
- The hair/scalp gate
Now if you think about it carefully, without your eyes, nose, ears, mouth, skin, and hair, we cannot have any contact or interaction with this physical word we live in on earth. If you shut off all those senses on any human, then the person is complete silence as in cut off from this earthly world as again, those senses allow us to interact with the things God put around us on planet Earth. These gates are also used by the doctors when prescribing medications. The prescriptions are administered through one of the gates to get access to your internal organs and being. Hence, you can easily come in agreement with any demonic spirit through those same gates via agreement (whether intentionally and moslty unintentionally as the kingdom of darkness loves to deceive) to access your soul .As result agreements with entities of darkness can be formed through:
- What you let through the eye gate – Any spirit behind that show or movie you are watching can easily come into you because watching it is a form of agreement to let spirits in
- What you can smell through the nose gate – there are instances where people are cursed through witchcraft through something they were handed to smell. Why? Because the nose is also gate to the soul
- What you are allowing yourself to hear – notice how tv is full of pornography nowadays mislabeled as tv shows and all the upgrades to the sound effects that we now added to it? TV will hold no entertainment power without sound. Furthermore, the types of music that are being marketed nowadays are full of death, debauchery, and emptiness. Imagine which spirit(s) you are letting inside of you by allowing all those sound and words to go through your ear gate.
- What you are saying – the mouth is a powerful warfare tool. Anything that requires you to use your mouth to say anything must carefully be scrutinized and examined. The world we live in was created by the power of the word of God (And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light – Genesis 1:3). Every time you open your mouth, you are building your future by what you say (Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. – Proverbs 18:21). Now imagine that not only you can curse yourself with your mouth, but the music that we sing nowadays also lead us to use phrases such as: we want to die because we are tired, we cannot live without someone, we are sex machines Do you now understand what you are doing? Creating your future full of depression, death, sexual perversion etc. as words invite in spirits via agreement by what is being said.
- What comes in contact with your skin – many are perplexed by this. However, if you buy something that has any demonic influence attached to it and apply it to your skin or wear it, you agree with whichever entity of darkness, if any, is behind that product. How? Why do the doctors prescribe creams for us to apply to your skin at times if they don’t work? Those are prescribed at times not only for visible bruises, but something deeper than the surface of the skin.
- What touches your scalp – your scalp/hair is also a door to your soul just like the others especially as touching your hair. See how a person’s hair can be used to determine their DNA. And knowing that DNA is found in blood, that is how powerful your scalp and hair are. Now imagine allowing the enemy to get any type of access it can to your hair or scalp. This goes back to being careful who you let touch your hair and what you apply to it for fear of accidentally coming into agreement with any hidden entity of darkness that are now hiding behind product brands.
Those are ways we form both verbal and non-verbal agreements with entities or spirit of darkness. These apply to both Christians and non-Christian. Now to Christians:
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8, NLT)
3.Through open doors in your family bloodline and foundation
We covered an in depth-article regarding the power of bloodlines here. If an ancestor of yours has already open the door to this spirit and no one ever dealt with it, it has legal grounds upon the upcoming generations. That is the power of bloodline and family. It is written that the life of a creature is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11). If you have never opened the door to the spirit of depression by sinning or coming into agreement with it but you suddenly start getting opressed by it, it means that somebody might have previously opened the door and failed to close it. It is now up to you to go to Jesus, repent, and receive him as your Lord, become grounded in the word of God (The Bible), and see the victory that Jesus Christ has already won for you at Calvary unfold.
What makes this foothold (opening a door to the entities of darkness to our lives) as Paul referred to it according to Ephesians 4:27 even more dangerous is that it ties to the bloodline. If you think about it, what links you to you father and mother, grandfather and grandmother, great-grandfather and great-grandmother and so forth is the blood that runs through your veins. A family name if we think about it carefully is assigned to the bloodline of a group of humans. When we talk about the family Maccabee for example, there are traits that are physical, emotional, and spiritual that are similar to those groups of humans who share the same last name through the same bloodline. That is why people are quick to tell us: “oh my goodness, you look exactly like your father, or your great grandmother, or you have your uncle’s nose” etc. And though each member of that family are individual humans walking this earth, the blood that flows through them ties them together no matter where they go. This is exactly what makes the bloodline doorway one of the most effective and dangerous access the devils can be given.
Once one person in the bloodline, yes just one person waking up on the wrong side of the bed is what it takes, covenants the whole family to a demonic entity, the foundation of the bloodline of the whole family for generations to come is corrupted. This is why the Bible warned us regarding the foundation of “anything” really, not just the law:
If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do? (Psalm 11:3, ESV)
A building that was built on a faulty foundation is assured to collapse in the future. When Jesus talked about the foundation of a house built on sand rather than Jesus himself our rock in Matthew 7:24-27, the house on the sand could not stand in the day of adversity because its faulty/corrupted foundation is the surety of its future collapse. This is what makes this particular doorway to the entity of darkness very dangerous as it cages all generations to come until the foundation is repaired.
This is why doctors who are mostly oblivious to the spiritual through Christ, whenever they find a decease will enquire about the family bloodlines as in: “did your mother or father or anyone in your family ever had this?” Because a faulty or corrupted foundation through the bloodlines opened the door to that same entity of darkness that has been afflicting anyone in the bloodline with the same illness or disease for years unbeknownst to the doctors of course.
The bad foundation is also why many people drink during happy hours on Fridays but not all people become alcoholic but only some. Bad foundation is why many may have watched pornography in their younger years but were able to completely quit it cold turkey while others became enslaved by the demons of sexual perversion by only watching 1 pornography movie or magazine. The answer is: bloodline foundation!
When Jesus gave us the blueprint of the enemy’s agenda in John 10:10 he also gave us the solution in the same verse:
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10, NKJV)

3.Trauma/Abuse
This single doorway to demonic possession and oppression I believe is one of the kingdoms of darkness’s favorite tool to access children. Demons who have been covenanted and already operating in the faulty or damaged foundation of the bloodlines of families especially are quick to leverage this method. Trauma and abuse allow those familiar spirits to not only reinforce the demonic covenant, agreement, captivity, or bondage that already exist in the bloodline, but also to start their operations in the family member’s life at early age. In fact the familiar spirit in that bloodline will be the one to cause the abuse/trauma to occur in instances where they are already operating in the bloodline.
Children become what they are taught from childhood, so it makes sense that the enemy wants to start/resume/reinforce their operations in the life of family members of a bloodline:
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6, ESV)
As a result while parents are not sober and vigilant, the enemy starts its operations very early in their children’s lives. Parent can themselves be used by the enemy in this process. This is why children are now being molested at age 5 or even below 2. Each time there is an abuse/trauma, our souls get wounded. Remember this?
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5, KJV)
There is much more to the verse above as it deals with transgressions, trespasses, and iniquities but within the context of this article, we see that healing of our soul occurs in Christ. Because once a child is raped, molested, or abused verbally or traumatized in anyway or even by one parent or both for examples, the soul is wounded. As the soul gets wounded, the child will find ways to “cope” with it to protect him/herself by engaging in behaviors or adopting believes that then become strongholds that God did not intend for us to have in the first place. A child who was sexually molested is introduced to lust early and as a result will get into pornography, prostitution, and all types of perversion to cope with the lust that was introduced to him/her. Again, when the demon of lust/perversion is already in the foundation, the demon will be the one I believe to orchestrate the abuse or trauma in the first place to further seal the bondage and captivity of the child. By the time the child grows up, imagine how strong is the stronghold that has built into the child’s life!
Another example – A child who has been rejected during childhood develops insecurities, low self-esteem, witchcraft/manipulation, dependency issues, and a corrupted sense of love which then opens the door to Jezebel and many more demons. Jezebel herself was not a demon but as we do not wrestle against the flesh but powers of darkness (Ephesians 6:12), we know that she was motivated by a demonic entity which many now refer to as Jezebel.
The same principle applies when one gets abused or traumatized when you are an adult. See, it is easier for the enemy to work on children as their whole lives from childhood will be corrupted from the onset. That is why therapy alone does not and cannot work as we are only dealing with the symptoms at the surface not the spiritual root. Only Jesus goes to the spiritual root to uproot and heal so that the bondage can be broken which then manifest in the physical as the person being freed, not the other way around.
When one is an adult and goes through a trauma or abuse, the principle is the same. However, if one gets the help that is needed as an adult, they can come through quicker I believe than if they were children. However, the concept is the same, that trauma/abuse opens the door to the demonic powers to bring the wounded soul in bondage.
Now let us wrap up this article as we went through quite a bit.
One of the great advantages of the new covenant in the Blood of Jesus Christ is that we now have the Holy Ghost residing and living in us. It was written that:
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (Timothy 1:7, NJV)
The Holy Ghost who resides in us Christians is not the spirit of depression or mental torment. That is another spirit God did not give us. And note above how it is written that the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of God himself gives us a “sound mind”. Not a mind full of whispers that tells us to kill ourselves and that life is over or that we would be better off dead than alive. When I went through my depression, those were the exact words that I heard, day and night! Worst yet back then I was a Christian who did not even read the Bible. It was only when I heard something (“The Holy Ghost”) whispered to me to pick up the Bible and fight, that I got out of my depression. I was so desperate to be truthful at that time as even the medication to sleep at night were not working while I was in so much mental torment averaging 2 – 3 hours of sleep, that I was willing to try anything to find peace. That very desperation coupled with my awareness that I might end up killing myself is what led me to pick up the Bible as I thought: “Oh, well what worst thing can happen at this point right?”. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit is also called the “Comforter”:
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever (John 14:16, KJV)
As I mentioned earlier:
If a Christian is in Depression, something went wrong somewhere. In other words, there is definitely an open door that led to bondage or oppression. That open door might be sin, demonic agreement, or a familiar spirit that has legal rights to you via ancestral open doors. Either way, depression is a form of demonic oppression or bondage in a life of both a Christian and a non-believer.
I sincerely put forth that statement not to offend anyone. And if I did, I sincerely ask you for forgiveness. When I sometimes tell Christian to check their own walk with Christ if they are facing depression, some get offended. However, from personal experience, that was exactly what I had to do. In order to live, I was “forced” review my own walk with Christ which was quite non-existent back then. And the first thing I did when I came back to my senses by the grace of God once the depression started, was that I humbled myself and asked for God to forgive me my sin. My sin was terrible bad back then. And what made it worst was that I knew the truth and still decided, for no good reason I must say, to break that law of God. I almost paid for it with my life because if I would have killed myself then, I would be in hell today.
One thing I also pointed in my earlier statement above is that depression might be the result of the operation of a familiar spirit that has been in your family or bloodline for years on. If it is familiar spirit you will know because you would have already heard from that spirit in your family line in terms other people dealing with the same issues: depression and suicide. As a result, once you notice that it is the same spirit at work, you must understand that it is time for you to put on your gloves and to engage in spiritual warfare. Why?
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:12 – 17, KJV)
Here are few steps to take when you notice early signs of depression:
- First check your personal walk with Jesus Christ to make sure you did not open any doors to sin like I did. If you are convicted by the Holy Ghost that you did, humble yourself and immediately go to the father by asking for forgiveness AND repenting. Repenting means that you are COMPELTELY stopping doing what you were doing that was breaking God’s law. Add fasting to this process if you can.
- If your walk with Christ is pristine and nothing is off, investigate your father and mother’s bloodline to see if other people before you or even now are dealing with depression. This might be a sign of a bigger issue of a familiar spirit that needs to be arrested by spiritual warfare through the power of the Holy Ghost and God’s words in Jesus name.
- If neither of the 2 points above apply, check what you have been letting into your soul recently via the gates of your soul. Walk through what you have recently being watching, listening to, smelling, speaking or singing, skin care (yes, I said it!), and hair care (Yes, I said it!)
It is worth stressing that humbling oneself first, asking forgiveness for all sins, and asking to be cleansed by God is a must regardless of which option above applies. Now when you get to the point where you need to engage in actual warfare against that wicked spirit of depression and death, you can refer to the steps noted in this article here.
If you are a non-believer going through depression and have engaged in yoga or other meditation methods that I am sure have not worked and will not work as they did do some of those myself, at least I hope that you now understand that not all gods are “G”od. The good news is that Jesus Christ loved you so much and already died for your sin as much as mine. The first step to kick the butt of that depression is to submit to God and receive Jesus Christ the only begotten son of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel as your Lord and savior. Only after you receive him, are covered by his blood, and receive his Holy Ghost, you can win this battle against depression because Jesus Christ was the one who won the victory already for you at Calvary. The power is in the blood of Jesus:
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. (Revelation 12:11, KJV)
